An independent insurance agency in Tulsa has a polished Google profile with dozens of reviews. Its website, built five years ago, still lists a former suite number and an agent who retired. A prospective customer comparing auto policies notices the mismatch and wonders whether the agency is still active.
Insurance customers tend to research before they share personal and financial information. Your website and your listings need to tell the same story.
Think of your website as the primary record of your agency’s details. Every listing, from your Google Business Profile to industry directories, should match what your website says. When your website contains errors, those errors often spread to other platforms.
Check the basics first. Your agency name, office address with suite number, phone number, hours, and email should appear on your contact page and in your footer. Add your state license information if your state requires it in advertising. If your agency has more than one office, give each location its own contact block or page with its own address and phone number.
LocalBusiness structured data, defined by schema.org, describes your agency’s name, address, phone, and hours in a format search engines can read. An insurance agency can use the InsuranceAgency type, which is a more specific form of LocalBusiness. Your web developer can add it in a few minutes, and Google’s Rich Results Test can check it.
Create a page for each agent with their photo, license details, lines of insurance they handle, and languages spoken. Customers often want to know who they will speak with before calling. Remove departed agents promptly to avoid confusion.
After updating your website, review every listing that mentions your agency. Correct suite numbers, phone numbers, and the lines of coverage you offer, such as auto, home, life, and commercial insurance. Remove any coverage lines you no longer write, since a customer who calls about a policy you cannot offer wastes time on both ends.
Insurance businesses can add their agencies to the Insurance Services category on Breathing Social, where local customers browse providers. Use the exact agency name and contact details from your website on your Breathing Social listing, and describe the types of coverage you write in the same terms.
Insurance customers notice inconsistencies and treat them as warning signs. Make your website the accurate source of truth, add structured data and current agent pages, and match every listing to it, including directories like Breathing Social. Aligned details make it easier for cautious customers to choose your agency.
LocalBusiness is a type of structured data from schema.org that describes a business's name, address, phone number, hours, and other details in a machine-readable format. Search engines use structured data to understand pages. More specific types, like InsuranceAgency, are available for many industries.
Each real office location should have one business profile. Some carriers have rules about how captive agents list themselves, so check your carrier agreement. Individual agents may qualify for their own Google profile under Google's practitioner guidelines, depending on how they serve customers.
Many independent agencies list the carriers they represent, which helps customers understand their options. Check each carrier's rules on using their names and logos. Keep the list current and remove carriers you no longer represent. Outdated carrier lists can frustrate customers who call expecting a quote.
Update them immediately after any change, such as a move, a new phone system, or staff departures. Review the full website at least twice a year. Then update your listings to match, so customers find the same details everywhere. Assign one staff member to own the update.
